Laser hair removal, perhaps the most popular of all cosmetic laser treatments, creates a lot of questions with consumers. Recently Alma Lasers’ clinical team fielded a question from a parent wishing to have laser hair removal performed on her pre-teen son. The young, prospective patient was a dark skin type and the parent’s concern was whether or not the Soprano XLi was cleared for treating dark skin.

While not all laser hair removal machines can treat all six Fitzpatrick Skin Types, the Soprano XLi can. However, that’s only one factor involved in answering this question. The bigger concern is whether or not the young patient’s body chemistry is ready for laser hair removal.

We all know that a pre-teen’s body is charged with hormones. While laser hair removal could reduce the amount of hair, the abundance of hormones in the young patient would most likely cause the body hair to return. For this reason, Alma Lasers’ clinical recommendation is to treat those 16 years of age and older. The concerned parent  understood this recommendation and appreciated the guidance.
