Recently we spent some time with Don Berryhill, a savvy aesthetic laser pro managing the South Texas and South Louisiana territories for Alma Lasers. Here’s what he had to say about the aesthetic laser industry.

Alma: What’s the biggest surprise about the aesthetic industry?

Don: How much it’s improved and expanded over the years. The equipment we have now is much more advanced than what we started with. It’s easier to use and we’re all better educated than we were in the early days. We’re achieving much better outcomes and the procedures are considerably safer.

Alma: The advances came quickly, that’s for sure. What’s your favorite part about Alma Lasers?

Don: The mission of the company. I love that two of our main philosophies are that all equipment is made to be expandable and that there are no per-treatment disposables. This makes the equipment a much better value for our customers. For example, when I started with the company there were only 4 heads available for the Harmony. Now there are sixteen. Some have expressed concern that efficacy could be watered down by offering so many options in one system, but that’s simply not the case these days. Ten years ago, yes, but not today. The electronics are so much more sophisticated and efficient that we can do things not even considered just a few years ago.

Alma: Great points. What do you predict for the future?

Don: I’ve always felt that aesthetic lasers are a perfect example of a technology constantly in search of new applications. There will be new and improved ways to treat not only the current conditions but others that we haven’t even thought of yet. Alma is perfectly positioned for the future because we can adapt our equipment to whatever types of treatments physicians will be requiring and patients will be demanding.

Alma: Thanks for your time, Don. Is there anything else you’d like people to know about Alma Lasers?

Don: I’ve been in this business since 1995 and have met several smart people along the way, but none has impressed me more than the president of the company, Ziv Karni. He is a truly brilliant laser physicist and has revolutionized laser technology.
